Rodney Siau ​

Trumpeter 

Trumpeter Rodney Siau has over 26 years of playing experience as both a novice and a professional trumpeter.Upon Rodney’s arrival to NYC in the summer of 2002, he became very active in the jazz jam session scene honing his chops at Cleopatra’s Needle and other sessions including Smalls and Fat Cat. One of Rodney’s first professional gigs was backing up Martha Reeves and Vandellas at the Manhattan Center.Rodney has also spent time performing and/or recording with Brooklyn based drummer Brandon Sanders, American Idol Season 2 finalist Nasheka Siddall, Zozo Afrobeat led by former Fela Kuti guitarist/vocalist Kaleta, latin ska greats King Chango, Brooklyn based hip hop collective The Lo Frequency and their EP The Export, Brooklyn based independent MC Rabbi Darkside and his most recent release Prospect Avenue, as well as Gypsy Soul artist Edwin Vazquez and his upcoming 2016 independent release 1111. For the last 13 years Rodney has played every Sunday at First A.M.E. Zion Church in Brooklyn, NY.Currently, Rodney is actively performing and recording with Edwin Vazquez with +E in various locations around NYC including Fri & Sat nights at Salud in Bay Ridge, Prime Latino Media functions, The Hispanic Federation’s Night of 1000 Friends Annual Gala, and as part of the Queens Library Concert Series.Rodney has performed at Cleopatra’s Needle, The Manhattan Center, various Queens Library locations, The NYC Shrine, B.B. King’s, Carnegie Hall, The Blue Note, Camarades El Barrio, The Time and Life Building, 200, Pane E Vino, and The American Museum of Natural History.Rodney has studied with jazz trumpeters Andrew Loeffler, Jimmy Owens, Waldron Ricks, and Freddie Hendrix.Rodney has a B.S. in Computer Science from South Carolina State University and a M.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Lehman College CUNY.
